My MIL wants to buy Blakely a swing set for her birthday in October. But she wants to get it now so that she can enjoy it all summer long. I am thrilled about this and so very thankful that she wants to do this. My problem is that I have NO IDEA about which swing set to get. I started researching and OMG...over-freaking-whelmed. There are so many different kinds!
So here are my questions for you. If you already have one, what do you thing is a must have on a swing set? Anything that you dislike about it or that you think is a waste of space? I know most of you have toddlers Blakely's age so maybe you are researching now too. I would love to hear anything you have to say!
Here are the things that I know I want.
- wooden
- at least 2 swings
- slide
- not HUGE but not too small either. I want her to be able to play on it for a long time.
Other than that I really don't know. If MIL hadn't mentioned this then we would not have purchased one until probably next year. Not because I didn't want one but because Lonnie doesn't think she needs one. Whatever daddy...
I always feel like I need to research every single thing and read all reviews before buying something like this. I mean it is going to be in my backyard for a very long time!
Thanks so much for any advice or ideas!

I really can't help you b/c our house came with a swingset when we moved in. It's wood, has two swings and a slide. And for the most part, it's too big for Tay. We help her up to the slide (b/c the climb up is a ladder - she cannot climb it) and she loves the slide. We have a kids swing on it too which she loves. We do have the ability to add more to it as she gets older, so I like that aspect.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I think what you're looking for is great. I bet she'd love anything. And even if Lonnie is being all "she doesn't need one", after you told me about the water table decision, I bet he would want to get her the BEST ONE EVER. ;)
I would suggest to buy the set from a swing set store and not a place like Toysrus. Depending on your budget, other people have told us that the wood isn't very good quality. Ours came from Creative Playthings. Not sure if they have those where you are from. We were give ours for free but I do know that they can be pretty $$. My kids love the swing set & outdoor play is great for them. They are well worth the money considering you will only buy 1 and pretty much have it forever. http://creativeplaythings.com/
ReplyDeleteOurs has two swings (a baby swing & a regular swing, monkey bars that run down the middle where the swings are, a two person ride on thing, a clubhouse that you climb up a ladder to with a small sandbox under, a slide & it had a rope climbing area that we removed (I felt it was unsafe). Both kids use everything but we don't have sand in the sandbox & Shane doesn't use the monkey bars yet. Go big or go home Kel! B will love it!

ReplyDeleteWe may soon be in the market for a swing set too and although there is only one company I know of that makes them down here (which we just found out about this week yay!!), they offer all different designs and features so I would love to hear what others say are the best things to have. It will be wooden and I am thinking slide, two swings and I would like a little clubhouse part because I just think Lids would love hiding out in that. I am sure it makes it much more overwhelming in the US choosing one from so many options. I am sure you will find a great one that B will love for many years to come!!
ReplyDeletewe want to get one of these two but we are planning on moving in the next few years and don't want to mess with moving it. I think two swings and a slide is a great idea. I think she would also like a little covered play house type area. And my brother who is 16 years younger than me had one of these and his favorite part of the whole thing was the rock climbing wall.
