9 months old!
Hilarious because the twins are almost 17 months old BUT posting these drafts like a crazy person ;)
My sweet babes were 9 months old on January 27th. We actually had a well visit with the doctor so YAY for no sickness!
FEEDING: Both babies nurse 6 times a day and they are getting solid foods twice a day now also. We started with solids in the evening because Lonnie is home but now I give them something for lunch also.
Benton: This boy loves to eat. He nurses great but when he is done he is done. He doesn't linger anymore. He just hops off and is ready to do something else when he is finished eating. And he lets me know when he is hungry. He is happy all the time so if he is fussing it is because he wants to eat. He has bitten me a couple of times and there is no pain like the pain of a bitten nipple. Man. It caught me so off guard the first couple of times it happened that I literally squealed and scared him and Emery. Blakely never did this so I'm not sure what to do about it. He isn't making it a habit just every so often he bites down right when he latches on. Whew...lets move past that before we get top teeth, okay buddy?
He LOVES solids. The only thing he has turned his nose up at is broccoli. I just added a little bit of carrots to it and he ate it fine. I have started giving him some lumpier purees and some lightly mashed rice to work on textures and he does well with that. I don't think I could pick out his "favorite" food with now as he will eat anything you give him. Ha! I added in the lunch time solids a few weeks ago because I thought he was ready and starting to depend on the solid foods a bit more and I was right. He scarfs it right down. When he is ready for another bite he slaps the tray on his highchair over and over until you give it to him. He doesn't like when he has to wait for sister to take a bite!
Emery: My sweet girl likes to linger while nursing unlike Benton. I usually have to set him down so he won't try to pull her ear or poke her in the eye while she chills out for a bit. I tandem nurse during the day and I nurse them individually (lying down) for the first feeding in the morning. I really enjoy nursing them individually because it is so much easier! But it would take up so much of my time to do it like that every time so I just enjoy the times when it does happen.
She is finally starting to enjoy eating solids. Up until the last couple of weeks she would eat a little bit but she could really go without it. She didn't care one way or another so if she wasn't in the mood then there way NO WAY you were getting her to eat a bite of anything. Now she is consistently eating every evening and even most lunches also. It's like my girl finally got hungry! She is so so messy. I call her my little moving target when feeding her. She will open her mouth but then she moves her head side to side and up and down. It;s almost like she is so excited about it but doesn't know to be still so I can get that spoon in there!
SLEEPING: Oh I don't even really want to type this because I don't want to jinx it but the babies have slept through the night (800am to 7-730am for the last 5 days). All the praise hands and heart eyes.
Benton: Oh little man. You are the sweetest boy and you sleep so wonderfully during the day. But you have nearly killed me with your night sleep...or should I say night wakings. Whew. Mama has been oh so exhausted. Like I don't remember ever NOT being exhausted. One night you started screaming about 1000pm when I had just laid my head to the oh so comfy pillow. I literally started crying. I told Lonnie I couldn't do it. There was no way you were hungry, you had a clean diaper and you weren't sick. I knew you lost you pacifier but I can't give that thing back to you 4011 times a night. WHYYYY were you screaming?? Typically I would let you fuss for a while but when you started screaming I would come in because the thought of you waking your sister and then having 2 screaming babies overwhelmed me. But that night I didn't do it. I let you cry. Your sister woke up and you both cried. Then the greatest thing happened. After about 10 minutes of on and off crying your hand came across your pacifier in the bed. You brought that thing to your mouth, laid right down and went back to sleep. Once you stopped crying, Emery did too and went back to sleep. So the next day I went out and bought a LOT more pacifiers and you sleep with about 10 in the bed with you. You know to search around until you find one and you usually fall asleep with one in your mouth and at least one in your hands. Pretty cute.
We had a few more nights where you would wake up and cry a little but nothing terrible. Nothing that lasted more than 5 minutes. And Emery hasn't woken up since that very first time. And for the last 5 days you haven't even been waking up at all. So YAY! Please keep this up. I know you don't need to nurse in the middle of the night so let's just stay on this awesome sleep train. I feel like I could run a marathon! ;)
Emery: Oh my good little night sleeper! You only wake up in the night if you are sick or getting sick (which we have had a lot of that the last 2 months). At night you go right to sleep when we put you in your crib and you only move a little bit during the night.
But you hate falling asleep for naps during the day. Oh girl. You could be the nap fighting champion. We have gotten better at this though. Usually for morning nap you don't fight it anymore and you go right to sleep. The afternoon nap is usually a different story though. You are typically so so tired so you just scream and scream. I try to pat you on the back and that usually works but sometimes I just have to let you cry and then you fall right to sleep after a couple of minutes. Once you do go to sleep you sleep great though!
DAILY ROUTINE: This is the first month where I feel like I can say we actually have a daily routine. I mean we have had a routine going but some days there were 2 naps and some days there were 3. Some days there were 7 nursings and some days there were 6. I think most of the disarray stemmed form the fact that both have been sick for the past 2 months. That always throws things completely off. BUT! We are on the mend and the schedule is working really well. Which I am sure means y'all are going to change it up on me next week. ;)
700-730am: wake up and nurse
730-900: play time
900-1100 or 1130: nap
1130: nurse
1200 or 1230: eat solids
200: nurse
200-400: nap (Benton usually wakes up about 4 and Emery usually sleeps until 430 or 500)
430: nurse (sometimes I have to nurse Benton before Em wakes up because he is READY)
530: solids
630: nurse again (I would like to cut this nursing out soon. I think if they can eat at 500 and then again at 800 with solids in between I will. I tried one night and they were PISSED by 700 and hungry so we aren't quite there yet.)
830: nurse and bed time
A FEW THINGS THIS MONTH:
The biggest thing this month is that I now have 2 very much crawling all over my house babies. I can't take my eyes off of them or they are in the next room. I lost Emery for about 3 minutes the other day. I was panicked even though I knew she could only be in the kitchen, living room or dining room. She is so fast!
The other big thing this month is they both had RSV. Ugh. We had just gotten healthy and then 3 days later, BOOM. It happened on the weekend and, of course, Lonnie was out of town. I had to take them to the children's urgent care clinic and sure enough it was RSV. Their oxygen levels were low but not super scary low, Benton's worse then Emery's. It hit him harder than her, overall. They got breathing treatments and her levels came right back up and her wheezing stopped. Benton's came up but not perfect and he was still wheezing so he got a shot of steroids. Emery also had another ear infection (her third) which I knew was going to happen because if you have ever had a baby with RSV then you know the amount of snot that pours out. Benton's ears were fine at that time but when we followed up with our regular pediatrician 2 days later they were not. So both babies are back on antibiotics (their third round and i really hate that) so now they both have thrush and a wicked diaper rash. BUT! They are not snotty and only have a small cough so they are on the mend. I know this is going to be it. They are NOT going to catch any more junk. Please. I am so happy to have my happy smiling babies back!

At 4 years old...
**I am going trough all of my drafts and just posting the heck out of stuff even though it may not be finished so I can print my blog book. This post cracked me up since Blakely is now almost 5!**
She loves to laugh and to make us laugh. She is constantly trying to tickle or tackle Lonnie when he isn't prepared. She makes up words and songs all the time to make me laugh because I don't know what she means. Then she tells me what it means and laughs so hard.
She is obsessed with gymnastics. She flips and flops all over the house and asks me all the time when it will be Tuesday. Her new class is really good and she is learning more and more things each time we go. Right now she is trying to learn how to hold a handstand without someone spotting her. She is also learning how to do a back handspring after her round off. She has so much momentum after her running round off that I don't think it will take her too long to just go ahead and flip on over! Once she learns to jump up after it she will get it. She is in a class with 6-7 year olds for one hour a week. Each girl has different skills but they are good at catering to each child individually. The owner has asked me a couple of times if I would put Blakely on the competition team. I asked what that was and she said it was practice 2 days a week for 3 hours each day and a little travel to gymnastics meets. I couldn't help but laugh! The child is four. I would like for her to still like gymnastics! No way she would pay attention to ANYTHING for that long! Not to mention I have 2 infants. Not happening.
She is having a little bit of separation anxiety for the last month or so. She doesn't want to leave me. I know it all comes down to the babies are taking up so much of my time right now and this is her way of dealing with it/acting out. It is heartbreaking. I took her to school one morning and all of the sudden she wouldn't get out of the car and started crying. She had NEVER cried when I dropped her off. Not once. I was so confused. It took me a good 30 minutes to finally get her out and for me to leave her there. She was screaming. I talked to her teacher and the director and they all said that she was fine after I left. After much discussion with them and with Lonnie (because I wanted to make sure nothing else was going on) we figured out that she just wants to stay home with me. At first she wouldn't say that to me. She would just cry. Then one night we were talking and she told me that. It hurt. Benton and Emery take up so much of my time now. Much more than when they were sleepy newborns. I have started trying to spend more one on one time with just her and that seems to be helping. It wasn't just school either. She didn't want me to leave her at home with anyone, she didn't want to go to my mom's house (which is crazy because she LOVES going there) and she didn't want to go with Juanet. It was a rough month or so but I think we are past it now. I took her to school Wednesday and she walked right on in without a single tear. Maybe she just needed to turn four? ;)
She eats really well. We are lucky to not have a super picky eater. I am sure out of my three I will have one but it is definitely not her. She has a sweet tooth and asks for treats more than I would like but we try to keep it to a minimum. Some of her favorite things are cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, cottage cheese, bananas, plums, apples with peanut butter, any type of pasta, macaroni and cheese, eggs any way, bacon, ranch on anything, yogurt with granola, oatmeal, and anything Ms. Brenda brings her to eat!
She is a good sleeper. She is not a good "going to sleeper". Ha! Over the last 6 months, and maybe even longer than that since the babies are almost 6 months old and we had issues before then, she learned how to stall going to bed. Most of it was our fault. When I went on bed rest Lonnie had to start putting her to bed at night. We felt bad for her because I couldn't play with her during the day so he would spend a lot of time in her room with her. Well then he started trying to shorten it but she wanted like an hour of playing and reading and it just all went downhill from there. I'm sure everyone with a 3 year old has dealt with this to some extent. I need water. I need to go potty. I need another hug. I want my nightlight on. I want my closet light off. I want my door closed. I want my door open. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Lots of tears and lots of threats. Lately though we seem to have gotten a better routine down. I think routine is what she needed most. And consequences. Instead of just going down to her room and getting to do whatever she wanted we read a certain amount of books and then that is it. If she needs something else then she can get it/do it. At first she would be up 15 times for ridiculous things so she had to lose privileges. Now she just gets up to turn whatever light she wants on/off and to potty. She still sort of argues that she doesn't want to go to bed but once we leave her room she is usually asleep within 10-15 minutes. We start bedtime around 730 (brush teeth, get in pajamas, potty, read books) and hope to have her asleep but 8-815.
She still naps most days. Probably 5 out of 7 days a week. At school she always naps but at home she sometimes fights it. She is starting to realize that she feels better after a nap so she sometimes asks for one. That has just started in the last 2 weeks or so.
She loves her brother and sister and has started being able to make them laugh. She plays peek a boo and it cracks them up. She likes to hold them but will straight up toss them to the side when she is over it. Ha! I have to be sort of close by or have a cushy landing spot for them!
She wears mainly 5T but some 4T stuff will fit if it runs large or if it is a dress she can wear leggings under. She can wear a regular 5 also and really needs that size in pants for the length. Her shoe size is an 11 or 12 depending on the brand and, yes, she still loves shoes. Her cousin Syble came her about 20 new dresses a few weeks ago and she loves them with her whole heart. She changes in and out of them frequently and tells everyone that they used to be Syble's dresses.
She is really good at entertaining herself but she has to be pushed to do so. If she had her way she would have me on the floor playing with her at all times. I've really had to teach her to go play by herself with all her stuff. After some prodding she will. Sometimes she will go to her room by herself and play for long periods of time but typically she asks me to play first and if I can't then she will go play in the play room or her room.

She still sort of argues that she doesn't want to go to bed but once we leave her room she is usually asleep within 10-15 minutes. We start bedtime around 730 (brush teeth, get in pajamas, potty, read books) and hope to have her asleep but 8-815.
She still naps most days. Probably 5 out of 7 days a week. At school she always naps but at home she sometimes fights it. She is starting to realize that she feels better after a nap so she sometimes asks for one. That has just started in the last 2 weeks or so.
She loves her brother and sister and has started being able to make them laugh. She plays peek a boo and it cracks them up. She likes to hold them but will straight up toss them to the side when she is over it. Ha! I have to be sort of close by or have a cushy landing spot for them!
She wears mainly 5T but some 4T stuff will fit if it runs large or if it is a dress she can wear leggings under. She can wear a regular 5 also and really needs that size in pants for the length. Her shoe size is an 11 or 12 depending on the brand and, yes, she still loves shoes. Her cousin Syble came her about 20 new dresses a few weeks ago and she loves them with her whole heart. She changes in and out of them frequently and tells everyone that they used to be Syble's dresses.
She is really good at entertaining herself but she has to be pushed to do so. If she had her way she would have me on the floor playing with her at all times. I've really had to teach her to go play by herself with all her stuff. After some prodding she will. Sometimes she will go to her room by herself and play for long periods of time but typically she asks me to play first and if I can't then she will go play in the play room or her room.

still here!
Just wanted to drop in and say hello! We are still here and doing well. I haven't figured out how to fit blogging into my everyday life with 3 kids but maybe one day I will. For now here is a picture taken on Easter of my crew!

7 and 8 months old!
Well the 7 month update just slipped right by me..ha! The twins were 7 months old on November 27 and I completely forgot to take their picture. It has been a whirlwind the last couple of months so I am just going to combine these two updates and go with it! I don't have much time to blog but I do want to document some things here so here goes!
FEEDING: The babies eat great. They nurse 7 times a day but some days just 6 as we are trying to head in that direction.
We started giving them solids at the beginning of November. The first thing they had was acorn squash. Benton LOVES food and Emery is not the biggest fan. He will eat anything I try to feed him but Emery has to be in the mood. Besides squash they have had carrots, green beans, peas, apples, bananas, and sweet potatoes. I can usually get Emery to eat a couple of bites and then Benton just eats the rest of it.
We got highchairs for Christmas and I LOVE THEM
I am making the baby food just like I did with Blakely. I spent one afternoon boiling, steaming and baking all the food. Then I puree it and freeze it in ice cubes trays. Once frozen, I pop them out and put them in ziplocs in the freezer. So easy and makes a bunch so I have only had to do it once in 2 months.
SLEEPING: Oh these babies are so different in this category. Whew. Benton sleeps great for naps during the day. Emery fights naps but eventually gives it up. They take 3 naps per day with the last one being a cat nap in the evening (Emery fights this one the most but she just can't make it to bedtime without it).
The night sleeping. Oh the night sleeping. Emery has always been great at this. Put her down at 830 and she sleeps until 7-730. Benton wakes up at least once to eat. Then they got sick in December. Both had ear infections. Emery would not sleep laying down...I guess the pressure on her ear or something? Anyway, so she's been waking up multiple times a night. Benton got an ear infection about a week after her and started waking up multiple times at night. I couldn't just let them cry because I knew they didn't feel good. So it has been a REALLY rough 6-8 weeks of no sleep for me.
Benton is finally better and off his antibiotics. Emery got another ear infection and is on a second round of antibiotics BUT no one is sleeping. I am pretty much at the end of my rope on the no sleep. I feel like a zombie every single day and it is really wearing on me. I am determined to make them sleep at night...New Year's Resolution! Ha!
When I feed them early in the morning between 6 and 7 I just put them in bed with me and lay down to nurse. Sometimes they both fall back asleep and those are the best snuggles in the entire world. I will miss it so much when they stop doing this.
CLOTHING: They both wear 9 month clothes but if they don't have a cloth diaper on then those are too big. Emery can really fit in 6 month stuff if it weren't for the big booty diapers.
DIAPERS: Cloth diapers during the day and a (size 2) disposable at night.
WEIGHT: I am guessing Emery is about 14 pounds and a few ounces and Benton is getting close to 16 pounds. We've been to the doctor for sickies a couple of times and they weighed close to that with their clothes and diaper.
HEIGHT: Another guess but probably an inch or so long her than at their 6 month check up. SO Emery 26 1/2 and Benton 27 1/2.
HAIR: Benton's hair appears to be darker that Emery's. Hers is growing super fast and hangs down over her ears now.
EYES: both have blue eyes with Benton's being a darker blue. I think Emmmers is going to have the bluest eyes of any of us.

A few things about Benton:
- he is the sweetest boy. I mean seriously. He just smiles at me and it kills me every time.
- he is so content. I can set him down with a toy and he is happy to play with that toy for a long time.
- he has 2 teeth. He got the first one (bottom left) on 12-15 and the second one (bottom right) on 12-20.
- he started sitting up unassisted just a few days after Thanksgiving (right at 7 months old)...a few days after his sister!
- he is close to crawling but doesn't really care about it much. Like I said, he is content where you put him. But if there is something he REALLY wants, like my phone or if he sees a pacifier, then he does army crawl over to get it. He gets up on all fours sometime and rocks back and forth. He scooches backwards when he is on all fours and that kinda makes him mad because he ends up backed up against something.
- we call him Benny mostly but he does have a few other nicknames. Benners, Benny-boo, and Ben-man are the most common.
- this boy is finally not snotty. he had an ear infection but antibiotics cleared that up. he now has fluid behind both ears but it is not infected. if we can keep him from getting a cold, etc then that should go away. PLEASE!
- he kicks his little legs when he gets excited. Blakely did the same thing and I had forgotten it until he started doing it.
A few things about Emery:
- she is never still. this was the best I could get of her laying on the blanket!
- she is going to make me go gray. before she could sit up she would get so mad that she couldn't. Now that she can sit up she is mad that she can't crawl. She just wants to go places. Until she can run around as fast as her sister she will not be satisfied!
- she wants to be in on the action. if we are in the kitchen then she wants to be there. Basically she wants all the attention!

- she has one tooth (bottom right 12-22) but she is working on a few more. she chews and slobbers on everything
- she started sitting up by herself right at Thanksgiving (7 months old).
- my poor girl has been snotty for a month. bless her. her very first ear infection was so bad. it came on so quick. she woke up snotty one morning with no other symptoms. by the next morning she was lethargic, inconsolable and a fever that wouldn't quit. i took her in a rush to the doctor when she refused to eat and was so limp I couldn't really rouse her. it was pretty scary for this mama. severe ear infection it was and they thought it would rupture but we avoided that. shot of antibiotics in the office and a bunch of motrin for fever and pain and she was a little better. we also had ear drops for pain and those helped her a lot. now we are on our second ear infection but this one wasn't as bad and we are almost done with abx so hopefully the sickies will go away and stay away. Blakely never had an ear infection so this is all new to me and I don't like it!
- Oh sweet little Emery has a lot of nicknames. The most common ones we use are Em-doodle, Sue (no idea), Sue-doodle, Rem, Rem-turkey, Rem-a-lem, Emmers and Emmy.
- she is oh so close to legit crawling. I give it days. she gets where she wants by getting on all fours and then pushing forward, landing on her tummy and then doing it all over again. Sometimes she does a real crawl on hands and knees but she hasn't mastered staying that way yet. Soon. oh so soon.
she has been getting on all fours and even doing a little plank since she was 6 months old.
The both love their big sister so much even though she sometimes throws them around like rag dolls. Haha! Just kidding. Although she thinks they are big enough now for her to pick up. I keep telling her no but I have to watch her like a hawk. They are getting to the age where she likes playing with them and especially making them laugh. I love seeing them all three together. I am the luckiest.

Christmas 2015
Christmas was, of course, wonderful this year. It was fast and furious and I am happy to have the holidays behind us even though they were super fun. I love it but there is so much to do and so little time to do it. All I can say is thank goodness for A.ma.zon P.rime!

We always have a dinner on Christmas Eve and this year we had that at Jenni's house. My brother was in town for the first time in a year and a half and we were so happy to have him. He stayed with my mom and they came over during the day Christmas Eve so he could hang with us and my kids. Then we went to Jenni's and it was great. The babies did good even though it was a late night for them. When we got home we put all the kids to bed and then Santa came.
Blakely was SO excited to match Emery.
And then she was over pictures....
I think Uncle Matty played play doh with her the entire time.
For Christmas Day we typically have brunch at my mom's house and then hang out all day. Well I decided this year it would be easiest to do it at my house. That way the babies were in their element and had all of their things. I could easily put them down for a nap when needed and I wouldn't have to pack up my whole house for a few hours at my mom's! Also, Lonnie had to work Christmas Day so I would have been doing all of that by myself. Not fun. I am so glad we did it this way and I think we will continue each year!
My mom and brother spent the night with us on Christmas Eve that way they could see the Santa stuff and then we would all exchange presents before the rest of the family got here. It worked out great and I know they both really enjoyed it. Especially seeing Blakely's sleepy face when she realized that Santa came....and that he did good. ;)
I think these two things were Blakely's favorite presents. My mom got her the sleeping bag with pillow and I got her the suitcase. She has slept with the sleeping bag every single night since. And she packs up the suitcase multiple times a day :/
We all had to wear a tiara...
Brunch was wonderful. We hung out in the living room and everyone opened their gifts (we draw names). Then we just enjoyed each other's company and everyone got plenty of baby time until it was time to eat again. Ha!

I love this picture. She is wearing a dress that is 2 sizes too small, a gold tiara to mach the gold sparkles on the dress, her new gold sparkly shoes and she was singing something while playing. It is just so Blakely.
So yes, it was a lovely Christmas. My kids were spoiled and my house is still a wreck but that's okay! I think it is going to be a wreck for a couple more years before I can catch up. I love this little family of mine!
